Sasan Gir National Park is home to more than 300 species of birds, 578 species of leopards, over 600 Asiatic lions, and over 100 other kinds of mammals and reptiles. Thousands of tourists come here to observe these amazing animals.
Covering an area of 1412 square kilometers, this national park is a superb example of nature's bounty for us. preserving a wide variety of indigenous species that would not have been listed as endangered.
This park is a must-visit wildlife site in India since it is home to wild Asiatic lions in their natural habitat. This beautiful biodiversity, which was designated as a national park in 1975, is the only location in the world where you may see these magnificent lions in their natural habitat. But the sanctuary had been established ten years before.
Based on the results of the most recent census, which was carried out in 2015, there have been 27% more Asian Lions in Gir and the surrounding area since 2010. There were 213 sub-adults and cubs, 201 females, 109 males, and 523 total lions in the population. The Gujarat government declared in March 2018 that, as per an unofficial count conducted in early 2018, there were over 600 lions in the region, as opposed to 523 in the 2015 census. 2020 will see the next official census.
Location
Ideally situated in the southwest of the state of Gujarat, Gir National Park is 360 kilometers from Ahmedabad, 65 kilometers from Junagadh, and 40 kilometers from Veraval. The park welcome and orientation center is situated at Sasan Gir hamlet, which is also the park's entrance (close to the official Sinh Sadan guesthouse of the forest department).
Best time to visit Gir National Park
December through March is the best and busiest season to explore Sasan Gir National Park. But during the busiest times of year, the park is congested. When it's hot (March to May), visitors can see a variety of wildlife species, including lions, when they emerge to cool off.
The ideal time to go on a safari in Sasan Gir is unquestionably in the morning, when the lions are most active. They usually spend the remainder of the day sleeping.
Gir National Park is open from the middle of October to the middle of June. Within the park, there are two daily shifts of three-hour jeep safaris along the Gir Jungle Trail. Morning safari shift stars from 06:45 AM to 09:45 AM & evening safari timing is from 4:00 PM to 07:00 PM. For the Gir Jungle Trail, visitors must have an e-permit, which allows entry into Gir National Park.
